| So I decided to hold off on Gears of War and start playing Final Fantasy XII. So far I have only put in 4 hours into the game, but I am a bit disappointed so far. My main concern for the game is the the new combat system. Though the new combat system is good in the sense that you no longer wander into random, often annoying battles, it is just too damned easy, not all that fun, and is pretty much just there so you have something to do while you travel between story archs. One of the beautiful things of random battles is that you were always transported into an "arena" where you faught. It was in this arena that you were treated to beautiful animations, colorful spells, and often challenging (if not repetative) combat. With the new roaming combat, which emulates a MMO in more ways to one, the action is slower, the graphics are "ok", and you don't really feel engaged with the action on screen. I will see how I feel in a couple more hours of play.
